A time to celebrate...

Bekah's one year dia-versary is coming up, in a week to be exact.  A few weeks ago I posted these verses from the Bible:

Ecclesiastes 3

A Time for Everything
1 For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
2 A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
6 A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.

At the time my heart was grieving and I just needed to allow myself to be sad and feel the heaviness of grief.  Today though my heart is giddy and it is a time to celebrate.  As I look back on the past year and all that God has done, I am grateful and in awe.  I knew a year ago that I would make it but I wasn't sure what it would look like.  I trusted that God's grace would see us through.  We have this saying around our house "Where God guides, He provides".  I knew that God would provide the path that we needed to get through each day and I am not saying the bad days are all behind us.  I know there will be yucky days and crazy weeks but I know that God is faithful.  God is good ALL of the time, even when a child is diagnosed with type one diabetes!  March 8, 2010 my world was rocked to it's core and on March 8, 2011 we will celebrate that God chose on that day a year ago, to let us have a second chance with our daughter and many more days to love and laugh and be a family of 6.  I hope and pray that we have countless more days but really only God knows.

Today I want to let you know of the week's events.  First of all is a giveaway here on my blog.  To enter simply leave me a comment on my blog.  Any post is fine and you can enter once per day.  Please leave your name on the comment or it won't count.  Comments will be counted up until 12:00(midnight) PST on March 8th. I will number the comments in order that they come in and go to random.org to chose the winner who will be announced on March 8th.  No need to FB or Twitter about this (I don't use twitter much and I'm not looking to advertise anything).

This is not this week's sugar bolus...if you are looking for that click here

What will you win?  Well I decided that I wanted to give away the things that have gotten me through this year.  I wanted to put together a giant basket but my funds are limited.  So I limited it to two things easy to ship and would fit just about anybody.  First is a Starbucks card (you get to see the amount when it arrives) and the book "Jesus Calling".  This book and the intimate way it was written has spoken to my heart and helped me to keep my eyes focused on God.  He is really the main reason I am still standing and sane.  The Starbucks is becuase coffee has been my life blood.  When you get as little sleep as we Drents do, a good cup 'o joe in the morning is like heaven on earth.

This week you can expect to see a few guest posts from my family to hear about the ripple effect that diabetes has on those closest to us.  One of my sisters, my children, my niece, possibly a couple of my friends and my husband all have some words to share.

Lastly on March 8th, we will PaRtY!  Those who are local, please join us and those who are not, I know you will be there in spirit.  We will party to celebrate God's grace and goodness, we will celebrate Bekah's life and amazing bravery over the last year.  (7 yrs old doing her own site changes...hello that is BRAVE) Wear blue if you can on March 8th to honor Bekah (and all other people who live with and fight type one diabetes on a daily basis) and find someone to educate about type one diabetes.  The party will be at a local pizza place and we will have balloons and cupcakes.  I have a friend who is a graphic designer who is donating a banner.  I have asked our friends and family to bring new stuffed animals to be donated to our local pediatric ER.  Bekah got a bear on dx day and he is still very special.  If you and your children want to join our efforts even if you are not local, I'm sure the pediatric unit at your local hospital or your local fire dept will take donations of new stuffed animals.

There is indeed a time for everything under the sun and this week is a time to CELEBRATE!

  9. LOVE LOVE LOVE what you are doing to celebrate. I think D'versaries are a big deal and something to be celebrated. While we won't be able to come to pizza (that Tues is my busiest day of the month!), we will wear blue and think of you guys! Bekah sure is lucky to have such an amazing mom and loving family.

  10. I've only just stumbled across your blog. What a beautiful post. I can't begin to describe how important it is to celebrate the Dia-birthday. As a CWD, now 32yrs old, the daily grind of managing D even as a kid, was lonely. Something about D needs to be celebrated :)
