CDE

We had an appt with a CDE today. This particular lady I had never met before in person but on the phone was always nothing but nice. We arrived at our appt only to have to wait for her for over 1/2 an hour. I am usually very gracious when it comes to tardiness because I am not always Miss Punctual myself. It was the rest of the appt that caused me to become irritated. She argued with me about the number of classes we still had to take. It wasn't really what was said but her manner in saying it. She talked for an hour and 20 min and I thought this was to be a 40 min class. No big deal, I love to learn especially about D. At the end of the appt she looked at Bekah's numbers from the glucometer download. She made a face and then with a smile on her face basically told me that I am crap.

Bekah has been sick this week. Yes she had some 200s but I didn't make any changes because, well she was sick. I thought I was doing good to keep her under 300 while sick and keep ketones at bay.

I cried the whole way home.

I'm feeling a bit discouraged and like I don't know anything anymore.

  1. This lady has NO RIGHT to make you feel bad! This makes me so angry. Not only are you doing the best you can for your child with diabetes, now you have a SICK child with d! Sick days are such a crap-shoot with numbers, that I think if you kept her ketones down sometimes that's all you can hope for.

Is she your assigned CDE or do you just see whoever's available? If you can, PLEASE request someone else. Someone with an ounce of compassion. How does making you feel badly help you take care of your daughter?

Don't be discouraged. Your doing great! Just hang in there. You're a terrific mom and you're doing a great job with Bekah.

  2. Thanks Pam! We don't have an assigned CDE. We do have a favorite though and I think we're going to bring her flowers next time we see her. From now on, I will request our favorite CDE. The gal we saw today, was one we had only talked with on the phone and I was actually excited to meet her in person. I did just hear from another parent that she has felt like she was doing a bad job after meeting with this gal too. =(

  3. I'm still really bothered by this! I wonder how many other parents are out there feeling like they did something wrong because of her! I hope all of them and YOU know you're doing a WONDERFUL job!!!

  4. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. It's just completely unproductive.

I hope you are able to get the CDE of your choice henceforth.

You are doing a great job. No insensitive CDE can change that.

  5. That is horrible the way she treated you... someone in her position should understand how you can do everything right and STILL get bad numbers. I can tell just by reading your blog you do a wonderful job. Don't let one person's (obviously wrong) opinion get you down.

  6. WHAT!!! That just makes me sooooo mad!!!

How dare she...I just think people like that have no compassion and obviously have never experienced life with type 1 on a personal level, she just sees the numbers all day and not all of the HARD work and effort that goes into it!!!

I am so sorry that she made you feel so bad, you are doing a wonderful job and PLEASE don't let her make you doubt your ability to take good care of your daughter...which you are doing a great job by the way.

    BIG (((HUGS)))

  7. Push the ignore button sweet friend, this woman obviously has no idea. I am so sorry. Keeping your daughter within good range while sick is no small deal. You are a rockstar and don't let anyone, ANYONE, tell you different! Now you know to stay away from that one. ((HUGS))

  8. ARG!!! I seriously can't understand how someone can be so rude. If she can't be encouraging and supportive... than she needs to find a new job!

Hang in there... you are awesome... NEVER.LET.ANYONE.MAKE.YOU.THINK.OTHERWISE!!!!!!

  9. You, my friend are doing a fantastic job with this beast! I have no idea why that woman would feel compelled to offer a single OUNCE of negative input....but do NOT let her get you down.

Those numbers cannot be used to judge your daughter's overall well being.

See that smile? THAT is what measures success.

    AND YOU ARE A SUCCESS!

  10. Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable....if anything be excellent or praiseworthy....THINK ON THESE THINGS!

You are God's workmanship and you are wonderful, even if you don't feel like it or someone tells you otherwise.

God loves Bekah even more than you do and He will enable you to take care of her.

AND what you may not do right.....HE will take care of....so you don't have to worry one little bit! Don't we have an amazing God?!?!

Remember the TRUTH! Okay, Sweet Friend?! : )

  11. OK Ladies, I just have to say you are all awesome! Thanks for your kind words and for lifting my spirits. I do have to add that I made no changes and Bekah's numbers yesterday were all in the 80-180 range. =)
